Midjourney V8.2 is the version Midjourney’s own release notes describe as current: a 1024px standard render, a 2048px HD tier that costs 62.5% more compute, and an output size that changes with every aspect ratio. It is also the version that ships without a public API — the only official interfaces are the website and Discord.

What Midjourney V8 produced in a hands-on review

These four are not Midjourney’s own examples. They are frames Curious Refuge generated with Midjourney V8 while testing it for its own review, and that review publishes the prompt behind three of them. They are rehosted here as a citation with the credit below; all four belong to the site that made them, and Midjourney has neither published nor endorsed them.

What it is

How Midjourney describes V8.2

Midjourney ships one model version at a time and makes it the default for everyone, rather than offering a menu of versions. V8.2 is that default, and the release notes are unusually specific about what changed in the output pipeline.

Resolution now depends on aspect ratio

V8.2 no longer renders every aspect ratio at the same pixel count. Standard output is 1024×1024 at 1:1, 1232×928 at 4:3, 896×1344 at 2:3 and 1456×816 at 16:9, and the HD tier doubles each of those on both axes — 2048×2048 at 1:1. If you are generating for print or for a specific crop, that table is the one to check before you spend GPU time.

HD costs 62.5% more compute per render

Midjourney prices generations in GPU minutes: 0.8 GPU minutes for a standard render and 1.3 for an HD one. That is the same 62.5% uplift at every aspect ratio, and it is the reason a mixed batch of standard and HD jobs is harder to budget than a flat per-image estimate suggests.

Extreme aspect ratios are allowed, with a ceiling

V8.2 accepts aspect ratios up to 14:1 in standard mode. HD is capped lower, at 4:1, because the doubled pixel budget on a very long or very tall frame is where the render cost stops being predictable.

Two interfaces, no public API

Midjourney is driven from its website or from Discord. The company states that it is starting to investigate an Enterprise API, and publishes no public API today — so any service advertising programmatic Midjourney access is not calling an official endpoint.

Four plans, metered in GPU hours

Basic is $10 a month, Standard $30, Pro $60 and Mega $120, or $96, $288, $576 and $1,152 billed annually. Each tier carries a monthly fast-GPU allowance, and once it is used up you can buy additional compute at $4 per GPU hour. The commercial-use rule is tiered rather than flat: any subscription point permits commercial work, but a business past $1M in revenue is required to be on Pro or Mega.

HD doubles both axes rather than upscaling a standard render, so a 1:1 HD image is 2048×2048. The HD tier is limited to 4:1 and below, and costs 1.3 GPU minutes against 0.8 standard.
