Adobe Firefly is the studio; Adobe Firefly Image 5 is one image model inside it. The model you pick decides how many images come back and which settings appear.
What Adobe Firefly Image 5 is
Firefly is not one model. The Model dropdown under General settings lists Adobe and partner models, and Adobe’s own are Firefly Image 3, Firefly Image 4, Firefly Image 4 Ultra and Firefly Image 5.
Adobe calls Adobe Firefly Image 5 its most advanced generation and editing model yet: native 4MP output without upscaling, lifelike portraits with anatomic accuracy and major advances in multi-layered compositions. It shipped in public beta, and Prompt to Edit is documented for Firefly Image Model 5 and for partner models from Black Forest Labs, Google and OpenAI. Adobe’s newsroom spells the same model Firefly Image Model 5. The Adobe Firefly Image hub gathers the model line and its official examples.
Where you can run Adobe Firefly Image 5
Four surfaces are documented, and they are not equivalent.

The offer runs only on firefly.adobe.com and in the mobile app, so the browser is the shortest first run; Photoshop is for editing a photograph you own. The API adds rate limits and a schema rewrite, covered in the Adobe Firefly API guide.
Your first image, step by step
Adobe’s path is five moves long, and the order matters more than the prompt.
- On the Firefly homepage, select Image in the left panel, then Generate image.
- Fill General settings first: aspect ratio, content type and visual intensity live there.
- Pick the model: choosing Adobe Firefly Image 5 changes the rest of the panel.
- Write the prompt in simple, direct language, three words minimum.
- Generate, then continue from the result instead of starting over.

Content type: Art or Photo, or let Firefly choose from the prompt
Visual intensity: the strength slider
Composition: a structure reference image, plus the Strength slider
Styles: a style reference image, plus the Strength slider
Effects: colour and tone, lighting, camera angle

Adobe’s rule for every screenshot mismatch: the image generation settings will vary depending on the model that you select.
Prompt enhancement is the setting that gets copied incorrectly: Adobe documents it for the Firefly Image 4 and Firefly Image 4 Ultra models only.
Worked example: two prompts, one model

Adobe teaches prompt writing by escalation on one subject; the cat lines come from its prompt page, and the third shows a finished prompt.

For Adobe Firefly Image 5, Adobe’s community guidance adds that prompts here are written very differently from other Firefly models: exact colours, names, detailed descriptions and clear action verbs, plus an explicit statement of what must not change.
The instruction edit, word for word
The second example is an edit, and Adobe’s own demo prompt shows the style this model wants.
Make lighting bright warm daylight. Turn the headphones silver. Do not change the position of the woman.Three sentences, three jobs: change one thing, change a second, protect a third. In Photoshop (Beta) select the entire canvas, click Generative Fill, choose Firefly Image 5 (Preview) from the model picker, enter the instruction and click Generate; one variation returns in the properties panel. Quoting the exact text you want changed is how you move a word. Because a run returns one image rather than a grid, a second attempt edits one sentence deliberately.
Credits, offers and what Adobe has not published
Three rules sound like one, and mixing them up is the usual mistake here.
The first is the monthly allowance: Firefly Standard, Firefly Pro, Firefly Pro Plus and Firefly Premium are listed at 2,000, 4,000, 10,000 and 50,000 generative credits a month, with team offers at 4,000, 10,000 and 50,000.
The second is the unlimited-generations special offer, a promotion rather than a plan feature. It covers individual plans for Firefly Pro, Firefly Pro Plus, Firefly Premium and the 4,000, 7,000, 10,000 and 50,000 credit tiers; Teams and Enterprise plans are excluded. The year runs 12 consecutive months from the day you start, after which everyone returns to consuming credits. Firefly Image Model 5 is on the offer’s model list.
The third is standard unlimited features, which hold whatever the offer says: Firefly Image 4, Firefly Image 3, Generative Fill, Generative Erase, Generative Expand, Remove Background and Upscale. Firefly Image 5 is not among them, so the second and third rules cannot be quoted as one.
Other figures are not published by the vendor: no free-tier credit number, no prompt success rate, no per-image price. Price amounts move with promotions such as the first-year discount, so the official comparison page is the place to check. Output stays raster as well, and vector work is a different model line, covered by the Recraft hub.
